What is deliberately missing from these templates
- A photo — not required in Malaysia, and it invites appearance bias.
- IC number, date of birth, race, religion, marital status — they waste space and expose you to discrimination and identity-fraud risk.
- Tables, multiple columns, text boxes and graphics — ATS software scrambles them.
- Creative section headings — ATS looks for ordinary ones like “Work Experience”.
How to use it
- Copy the plain text, paste it into Word or Google Docs, and replace every bracketed field.
- Save as .docx or a text-based PDF — never export as an image.
- Use a safe font: Arial, Calibri or Georgia. Single column, left-aligned.
- Write achievements with numbers, not a list of duties.
Why these look emptier than other templates
Most “resume example” templates online open with a photo box and a block of personal details: IC number, date of birth, race, religion, marital status. The templates above contain none of it, and that is deliberate — not unfinished.
We set out the reasoning, with sources, in writing an English resume for Malaysia. In short: a photo is not required in Malaysia and invites appearance bias, while sensitive personal details waste space and expose you to discrimination and identity-fraud risk.
For government jobs, a resume isn’t the document
These templates are for the private sector and local companies. Federal civil-service applications don’t use a resume at all — everything goes through a structured profile in the SPA9 system. See how to apply for government jobs and the SPA interview.
